Dordrecht visit, including the new DordtYart

We'll be visiting Amsterdam in mid-June and are now thinking of making a stop in Dordrecht en route to Belgium. I found this art location (http://dordtyart.nl/) as I was looking around to find where to see Theo Jansen's Strandbeest, and apparently it's brand new.

(No one had responded to this post tripadvisor.com.sg/ShowTopic-g188590-i60-k52… so I did some more hunting around myself and was pleasantly surprised to find DordtYart.)

Can any of you give me more info re this new place and also re visiting Dordrecht for a day (with a possible overnight stay, I'd imagine)? Reaching the area should not be a problem, as we will be driving. And while we'd love to see some of the other well known Dutch cities, time will be limited...that said, perhaps this will be the little gem we're looking for, as it seems to be very old/historical, with a variety of things to see...or is that just how the tourism sites online represent it? Not surprisingly, I've never heard of it before, so I turn to you for info/assistance.

Thank you!

The city centre is amazing, agree; at least on the level of Delft or Haarlem and more quiet.

Can't comment on the new artist Yard, no experience.

All the best,

The city center is nice, but I think it also lacks some atmosphere.

The old saying is still famous in Holland:

"hoe dichter bij Dordt, hoe rotter het wordt."

The closer to Dordrecht, the more stinky it gets.

I lived in Dordrecht, the oldest city of that part of the Netherlands ,and would say the area around the Grote Kerk and havens are the nicest places to see ,and stay .Cars have limited access to the centre of Dordrecht, and its pay as you go for parking .

I would second Dordrecht, not many visitors go there, but very historical beautiful city. Also a bit more of a 'normal' small town. No university or massive industry. But a lot of beautiful buildings and also a nice riverfront.

Villa Augustus is very nice!
