Planing a trip

Hi, we will be staying in Bruges for at least 2 nights and we are looking for ideas and suggestions for a night or so prior to this after arriving at Calais on what could well be a Sunday.

Bed and breakfast could well be a option for us.

Parking would also be required .

According to viamichelin, it takes 1h34 to drive the 120 km from Calais to Brugge taking the E40/E403 which runs parallel to the coast and passes by e.g. Dunkerque (FR), Veurne, Nieuwpoort, Oostende.

For Veurne, for example, see http://www.eupedia.com/belgium/veurne.shtml and tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g641834-Veurne_West_F…

If you travel along the coast north of Ostende, you will come to a delightful town called De Haan. There are some pretty coloured houses here and the coastal tram runs through the centre. There is a very nice cafe/restaurant opposite the little tram station where you can sit in the conservatory and watch the world go by.

A few miles further along the coast, still going north, is the seaside town of Blankenberge.

The total distance between Ostende and Blankenberge is only about 15 miles (1/2 hr. driving time)

Turn off at Blankenberge on the N371 towards Brugge.

Are you interested in World War One sites ? You could check out Ypres, its sites, museums, cemetaries.

toerisme-ieper.be/en/…ramparts.html

Or Passendaele (Tyne Cot)

Or Watou ('beer and art village') for a stroll, a beer and a nice meal.

Or just a combination of the above.

Regards,

Hilde
