Best and cheapest way to travel from Brussels to Cologne?

Hi What is the best and cheapest way to travel from Brussels to Cologne. Is Cologne worth visiting suring a short trip to Europe?

I guess the best way would be by train on the Thalys. Journey time is 2 1/2 hours. Reservations are required and the earlier you book the cheaper you can get the fares (Smilys are the cheapest) and I think you can print the tickets at home.

Koln is nice and I guess you could see it on a day trip or stay the night. The cathedral is magnificent and there are plenty of bars etc

If you wanted to go cheaper then there is a coach service www.eurolines.com for around 25 euros return.

cologne is worth seeing though if you want to tick of a german city in a short trip and you start from brussels Aachen would be my choice.

Its pretty nice tioght picturesque centre with a very impressive cathedral and very nice german food and beer.

you have to look hard for kolsch though

it is an hours drive from Brussels and easily accesible by train
