Visiting Belgium Breweries

We wanted to visit some of the World renowned breweries around Brussels and wondered if there is a tour we could take so we wouldn't have to rent a car or drive. My husband is set on going to Chimay. We appreciate any advice you can give us. Thanks!

maps.google.be/maps/ms… is a link with 19 breweries and 4 beer museums in Belgium where individuals are welcome on fixed moments and days. Check out the ones indicated in the Brussels area.

Visiting the Chimay Brewery is impossible, but you're welcome at the 'Auberge de Poteaupré'.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate the links you sent. My husband is in the liquor business so we have a brewery tour at Chimay on Friday Oct. 7 at 11 a.m. so I was wondering if it's possible to get there without renting a car. I'll check out the maps.

Thank you again!

I visited Cantillon last year and really enjoyed it. It's the only working brewery left in Brussels and they make some really excellent beer. It was my first visit of a brewery that does spontaneous fermentation, and I learned a good bit about the process. The place is really small, and the self-guided tour takes less than an hour but you can linger in the tasting room and chat up the folks there if you like. Depending on what time of year you go, they may or may not be brewing or bottling so you shouldn't necessarily expect a lot of activity.
