Yes, there are day passes for 1 day or a week. That covers bus, metro, tram and trains in Brussels. Well worth it!

Take metro line 2 (Direction: Simonis Elisabeth) from inside the station. Get off the metro at Porte de Namur (5 minutes). Take bus 80 (Direction: Maes) from the Porte de Namur stop outside the metro station. Get off at Luxembourg stop (4 minutes).

Gare de Luxembourg is a train station and not a tram (or metro) station.

The easiest way - no changes - to get to Place du Luxembourg from Gare du Midi by STIB (Brussels city transport) as opposed to SNCB (Belgian Railways - any train to e.g. Namur, Luxembourg) is the 27 bus, which starts just outside Gare du Midi, under the railway bridge. At Midi, follow signs to "rue couverte" and buses; the 27 bus stop (direction Andromède) is just to the left of the exit but before going there, look straight ahead of the exit and you will see 2 ticket machines where you can buy single or multiple tickets or passes. You can also buy a single ticket on the bus but it will cost more.

You will know when you are at the Luxembourg stop, which follows Meeus (which follows Trône) because there is a display inside the bus, but you may recognise when the bus drives into the square: it turns left in front of the European Parliament and stops outside the Parlamentarium. Stay on this pavement/sidewalk and walk back the way the bus came, but taking the street straight ahead on the other side of the square, your hotel is on the left after you pass the entrance to the Luxembourg station.
