Something in April 2015?

I am looking at hotel prices for April 20, 21 and 22. For some reason those dates are much higher than surrounding dates. Is there something going on in or near Brussels on those dates? A holiday? A major convention? Thanks so much!!!

Yes, it's the European Seafood Convention, 21-23 April 2015: the world's largest seafood trade fair.

Thanks qaminari, what does this mean in terms of crowds for those few days? Are we better off going to Bruges and staying there? thanks so much!

It means nothing, except, as you have found, that hotels will be charging top prices (many Brussels hotels drop prices at weekends because this is a business and official travel destination, so they are full Mon-Fri/Sun-Thurs). Trade fairs take place at the Heysel exhibition centre which is well outside the city centre, and don't cause any problems for sightseeing etc.

If you can't find a reasonably-priced hotel in Brussels during your dates - you might try smaller hotels that business travellers are less likely to frequent, such as the Opéra - then indeed one solution would be to stay in Brugge: or Ghent, or Leuven (22 mins by train from Bruxelles-central, and only 13/14 from Brussels Airport).
