Traveling between Bruges and Ghent

What is the easiest way to get from Bruges to Ghent? We have an Eurail pass. Will that work? We would like to bike it but we have

luggage.

hi,

there's definitely a direct railway connection. should take an hour or so. trainstations are near the centre. Guess taking the bike with you should be possible, but you bettery check it out using:

http://www.b-rail.be/main/E/

local names for Bruges and Ghent are Brugge and Gent; I mention this because maybe the website only recognizes these names...

by the way, Ghent has multiple train stations; you should take the main station which is called Gent-Sint-Pieters

good luck!

Hi,

Normal luggage can't be a problem but large one can be a problem on double deck trains .

No, Frederik it doesn't take an hour ! It takes only 23 minutes !

You can take an IC train with direction " Eupen" " Gent St Pieters " " Antwerpen Centraal " or " Genk "

Here are the timetables : http://www.b-rail.be/nat/E/

Fare is free with a rail pass

Actually while Brugge station is not far from the centre - largely because Brugge is so small - the Ghent station is NOT: Gent St. Pieters is some way out and from there you would take the no. 1 tram to e.g. Korenmarkt,or as close as you can get given current roadworks.

Train is the only means of travelling by public transport between Ghent and Brugge, and naturally it is covered by your Eurail pass, as long, of course, as you buy one that covers Belgium/Benelux. IC trains, e.g. those going to Brussels, take roughly 30 minutes.

Cycling between Bruges and Ghent is perfectly feasible. It's only 45 km. And don't worry about the luggage! Rent a bike in one city, take a bit of luggage with you during the trip and cycle back a few days later. And pick up then the main part of your luggage. That's the way to discover 2 fantastic historical cities. But also to enjoy the rural landscape in between. And what is more, you can do it all along the very safe towpaths of the canal between Bruges and Ghent. For cycling back you can change a bit your itinerary. Both tracks are illustrated with these links.

Both cities have a few adresses where you can rent bicycles.
