Restaurants in Bruges

Am visiting Bruges for the first time with 4 girlfriends 1st - 3rd December. We are staying quite centrally (near the market square). Can you anyone recommend any reasonable restaurants for us to visit on the Friday/Saturday nights.

Hi

What do you like?

Any cost constraint?

There are some 250+ eating establishments in and around Bruges.

Have a look at this website

http://www.resto.be/ware/index.jsp?lg=EN

put 8000 in as the Zipcode

Here are a few of my favorites:

De Republiek - Sint-Jakobsstraat - Cafe (Lunch \ early dinner)

De Gastro - Braambergstraat - Restaurant (Fixed price menus for lunch and dinner)

Den Dijver - Dijver - Restaurant with dishes that incorporate beer

Den Gouden Karpel - Huidenvettersplein - Great fish restaurant

What is your budget? My 2 favorites: Pieter Pourbous & De Gastro - they have set menu lunches.

I prefer this one: http://www.dekoetse-brugge.be

It offers classical style food, including specialtiies like 'Paling in 't groen' (Eel), they also have oysters, lobster, chateaubriand.

My recommendations would be Au Petit Grand http://www.aupetitgrand.be/ which is an open grill restaurant. The rack of lamb and chateaubriand are amazing. Also for a reasonably priced meal I would recommend Gruuthuse Hof http://www.gruuthusehof.be/ and if you want something more fine dining I would recommend Kardinaalshof http://www.kardinaalshof.be/ all these are within a few minutes walk of the Mark't square.

Hi ya,

You made need this map to help with finding these;

Here are other useful downloads, walks guides etc:

Down to restaurants, here are a few that I have found good in the past that are around your budget:

DE MOSSELKELDER - A fish restaurant, just round the corner from the fish market. It is in the basement and not as expensive as the restaurants above.

Huidenvettersplein 5

www.mosselkelder.be/default.cfm?langue=uk

BISTRO DU PHARE - It is right out on the edge of town by the canal, a good 20+ minute walk, nice place worth the walk if the weather is OK. (Check openning days if you are there midweek)

Sasplein 2

http://www.duphare.be/duphareenglish.htm

DE STOEPA - Out by the station, a little walk from the centre but an interesting asian based cuisine.

Oostmeers 124

http://www.stoepa.be/

POULES MOULES - Centre of town, good place for mussels as the name suggests.

Simon Stevinplein 9

http://www.poulesmoules.be/

Cambrinus - Again in the centre of town (400 beers) but good hearty food.

Philipstockstraat 19

www.cambrinus.eu

'tRisico - A nice bar with a range of dishes, spaghetti, and some interesting stir frys (wok dishes on the menu)

Jeruzalemstraat 53

+ De Republiek and De Gastro from my previous post.

There are loads of restaurants to choose, when you walk around have a look at those you see. The menu should be in site from out side and pick one you like the look of.

I know lots of people eat in them and say they are great, but I would say avoid those around the Markt and around Walplein. More tourist trap than anything, the fixed menus will look good value, but the drinks will be relatively more expensive.

Have a great few days.

I have just returned and found Peter Pourbus to be excellent.

However I found Au Petit Grand was poor.

Gambrinus was great atmosphere and pretty good food.

Enjoy your stay!

I am glad you liked the (Pieter) Peter Pourbus. I had 2 meals there about 3 years ago. At that time, I did not contribute to TA; so please, unless you have already done so, post the reviews. Thanks for sharing, we love the feedbacks.

I had a Brussels/ Bruges trip last week. We only had 3 hours in Bruges though, so only a quick look around. Wet and windy, so we decided to have lunch in the warm in an Italian restaurant on the Main Square. There was a nice real fire burning, and we sat by the window and watched peoples' brollies blowing inside out.

We only had pizzas, but they were authentic Italian ones. I saw diners with pasta dishes that looked good too.

We had to meet our rep at 2pm, to walk the 20 mins to where the coaches have to park outside the town. We were nearly at the coach, when I realised I was not wearing my bumbag ( it was under my coat).

Money, passport, phone etc all in it. Realised I had left it on the floor in the restaurant, when I took my jumper off.

Havn't run so fast for years. Luckily it was still there, and I then had to run all the way back again.

I will never forget that restaurant !!!
