Arrived from London (Eurostar) early afternoon. Checked into Hotel Kwalito. What a find - will write a full review soon - but in a nutshell comfy rooms, excellant breakfast and amazing owners. Kris & Els went out of their way to make sure everything was perfect.
Els drove us into town and of course our first stop was a chocolate store. Kids (and I) were in Heaven. Then onto a canal tour. While it is interesting to see the city by canal - There were so many people on the boat it was uncomfortable. It was also extremely difficult to understand the guide. Had really good mussels for dinner then walked back to the hotel (about 1 - 2 miles).
Next morning got up to great food and then walked to the windmills. Explored the side streets and just enjoyed the history and age of the town. We visited the Frites & Choco museum... Okay - kids enjoyed and learned some new facts.
Walked to see the Madonna & Child. Then back to the belfry and up 366 narrow windy stairs to the top. As they were doing renovations there were limited views but still very cool. Then back down 366 narrow & windy stairs. Time for a rest & kid choice so a carriage ride through town. This was actually a lot of fun. Had an early dinner and sat outside and just enjoyed people watching.
Returned to the B&B and the kids played in the backyard on their trampoline & swingset.
Great visit - just too short. Off to Paris by train.
