First time

I am thinking of coming to bruges by eurostar for a weekend break for my husbands 60th we have only done one city trip which was to Barcelona and really enjoyed it. I realise bruge will be smaller

is their plenty to do for a 3 day weekend.

When traveling eurostar i believe you have to change in brussels

is this an easy process.

Is it easy to get transport to hotels from train station.

Lastly can anyone recommend any nice hotels nr the canals and not too far from the main attractions. would be looking for a reasonble priced 3 or 4 star hotel. Have seen one called the

Tulip hotel with expedial at a good price.

Many Thanks

Hello,

Have a look at my Trip Lists, so far I've made three and I'm working on a fourth one. I have a list for first time visitors and second time visitors. That should certainly be enough to fill your 3 days ;)

tripadvisor.com/GoListDetail-i23564-First_ti…

Keep in mind that if this is to be your first visit to Bruges, you'll need at least 2 full days to see and visit the most important places. Three days is ideal, you can take it a bit more easy.

The Eurostar is really easy. It will bring you from St. Pancras in London to Brussels South in two hours. In Brussels you change to an intercity train, there is one every half an hour, the ride to Bruges takes 1 hour. Bruges is the second stop from Brussels South.

Check www.nmbs.be (also available in English) for the most up to date time schedule.

Look over here:

tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g188671-i448-k3737…

to find out how you can get to the city center. Besides buses you can also get a taxi in front of the train station, that's not mentioned in the forum post.

I'm not allowed to recommend any hotels in particular, so below you'll just find a couple of hotels overlooking the canals. I'm sure other people will comment on their favorites. :)

< I am thinking of coming to bruges by eurostar for a weekend break for my husbands 60th >

If he is over 60 on the day you travel, you can buy his ticket at a (cheaper) "Senior" rate.

< When traveling eurostar i believe you have to change in brussels >

Yes. When you buy your Eurostar tickets, select the "Any Belgian Station (ABS)" option as your destination. This costs slightly more than a ticket just to Brussels, but allows you to travel on to Bruges without buying another separate ticket.

See eurostar.com/UK/…questions_answers.jsp - page 3 - "Travelling to Bruges, Antwerp or any other station within Belgium ?"

< is this an easy process. >

Yes. Belgian rail website in English allows you to look up times http://www.b-rail.be/nat/E/

< Is it easy to get transport to hotels from train station. >

Yes - see reply No 1.

Three days is fine for Brugge. However, if you do get bored...you have many options for day trips like Antwerp, Ghent, etc.
