As frequent visitors to Bruges we thought a Trip Report with our thoughts over 2011 may be of some use to anyone considering a visit , so here go`s ...................
with six visits over 2011 from January to December one of the main things we have noticed is the large amount of work going on in Bruges , all to the good in our eyes so far !
One of us ( not saying who ! it`s the wife ) uses a Mobility Scooter and she has noticed a marked improvement over the year in the number of drop kerbs for access between streets etc ... maybe just a small thing but can make a big difference when using Mobility Aids when on a visit ! for example : we visit Hema for lunch on most trips and although the store has a lift between floors it is more suited to able bodied people but useable with care by wheelchairs and scooters , one time we were going to use the lift a Hema assistant came to us and said we could use the service lift which is much wider and longer than the passenger lift ! we have used this lift on all frequent visits and it makes the visits to Hema a lot easier ! Well Done to the Hema Staff !
The provision of an Mobility Bus from Zeebrugge Ferry to Bruges is another example of the increased provision for the Disabled !
Signage seems to be getting more used locally which can only make a visit more easier to navigate round the city ( Town ? )
Prices seem to be remarkbly stable for most of our trips but have noticed a small but steady upward rise in the latter half of the year maybe due to the Euro crisis taking effect ?
Food quality is still excellent in the shops and markets especially the Cheese`s , Meat`s and Fruit , it`s always a delight to visit the Markets when there on the right days !
Restaurants are still amongst the dearest expenditure while on a visit , you have to use the reviews to find the value places not only moneywise but also quality wise ! do the research and you can get some real corkers for your euro`s , we have found , as most others , that away from the main squares , with a cpl of exceptions , are the best value eatiries !
Drinks can be expensive depending on where you drink , but quality is excellent in the Beer side especially the Trappist beers ! we think the t`Zand end of Bruges seems to be cheaper for the drinker than the Burg end or is that just us after a few beers ?
As for transport in Bruges , Foot is King ! good walking shoes or trainers are a must as you can walk miles in a day ! especially when behind Mrs Formula 1 on her scooter ! lol
We hope you have found this useful and look forward to 2012 and our continuing visits to Bruges ! See You There ?
