Is anyone aware if there are any English guided ghost walks in Bruges?

Good morning,

To my knowledge there are no ghost walks in Bruges. However, a good alternative would be to book a private guide for a walking tour called "Through Bruges followed by death".

The guide takes you on a two hour walking tour through Bruges and explains all sorts of macabre little facts about Bruges. I've done this tour and thought it was very interesting, though I have to admit I'm fascinated by that stuff in the first place.

Here is more info on the tour:

http://www.s-wan.be/Eng/dood.html

S-wan is one of the three guide associations in Bruges and they specialise in themed walking tours. If you book a guide, either directly at S-wan or via the tourist office (where I work), it means you'll have the guide to yourself. There will be no other tourists in the group.

The price for "Through Bruges followed by death" is 65 euro per guide. You pay your guide cash on the spot and he or she will give you a receipt. Normally you can choose where to start a walking tour, but this one follows a specific route (more or less) and therefore the best place to start the tour is on 't Zand square, where you find the large tourist office In&Uit inside the Concertbuidling.

As you can decide for yourself when to start the tour you can start in the evening, adding to that ghostly vibe you're looking for.

If you are interested you can book it at S-wan by sending them an e-mail: info@s-wan.be or through my office: res@bruges.be

Kind regards,

Sabrina

I'm going to Bruges in December. Its my 5th time but my girlfriends 1st time out of the country and I wanted to find a good tour to go on. This sounds perfect! Thanks for the reply Sabrina, even though I'm not the original poster. I think we'll have to do this tour :)

Hi,

Perhaps you can start somewhere at the end of the day, or in the evening. It will certainly add something to the atmosphere if you do the tour while it's dark :)

I usually suggest to start tours at the latest at 21h00, as it means you will finish at 23h00. Starting anywhere between 9h00 and 21h00 is fine.

S-wan has lots of other tours as well, incl. a romantic walk (Love and Passion), very popular around Valentine of course. Instead of learning about the macabre side of Bruges you will get to know all the (hidden) spots that have something to do with love or romance.

Another popular tour is the Chocolate walk during which you'll walk along some of the finest chocolatiers in Bruges.

Both Love and Passion and Chocolate include small sweets. Therefore the price for the guide is 85 and 135 euro respectively.

Don't know what you're into, but just giving you some other options as its your friends' first visit.

You're welcome to book it via my office, you may mention our conversation on Tripadvisor if you like or use my name. Or, if you prefer, you can book it directly at S-wan. Prices are the same.

Best regards,

Sabrina

I emailed S-wan, I got the contact info from their website. Since we aren't coming until December I am not sure when to book. As of right now we don't really know what we will be doing each night we are there. We will also be visiting my brother so I know he has things planned.

Hello,

Normally you can book up till one week in advance, but as S-wan is a small organisation it might be wise to book a couple of weeks in advance, so they have enough time to find you a guide. But S-wan will give you all necessary info I'm sure. :)

Kind regards,

Sabrina
