Liege by train for Tour de France 2012

we want to travel from Bruges to Liege by train, arriving on the morning of the Depart of the Tour de France 1 July 2012.

I can buy train tickets but not reserved seats on the trains.

Any advice?

Will these trains be full?

In BRUGGE there is a direct* train to LUIK (Liège) every hour on _ _ h 58

destination EUPEN.

you'll arrive 2h02 minutes later in Liége-Guillemins railwaystation.

the depart is a 15 minutes walk from the station.

*direct= no changes,

But train stops in GENT-BRUSSEL-Zuid+Centraal+Noord and LEUVEN.

indeed it is not possible to reserve a seat on this train.

I can not predict whether this train will be full, (depends weather-time of the day-etc.) but this train is coming from OOSTENDE and BRUGGE is the first stop.

But i think that after the departure of the 'tour de france' it will be 'rush hour' on the trains.

1 return ticket in

2nd class is about €21.00

1st Class is about €32.40

1) It isn't possible to reserve seats on domestic trains unless you are a group of 15+ Nor is there any advantage in buying tickets in advance, the price would be the same on the day of travel. Because there are no reservations, they cannot sell out.

2) According to this, the departure is on Saturday 30 June 2012: letour.fr/2012/…zone4 - however, that "stage" is entirely within Liège, the departure for Seraing is on 1 July (letour.fr/2012/TDF/COURSE/us/le_parcours.html).

1 July is a Sunday so if you are returning to Brugge the same day, ask for a weekend return. Normally the ticket clerk at Brugge station will ask you anyway whether you are returning and if so, when, to ensure they sell you the cheapest ticket (standard single, €20.10, weekday return, €40.20, weekend return, €21).

3) No idea. Of course cycling is popular in Belgium, but whether that means many people would be travelling to Liège at the same time as you, and from the same place, I don't know.
