Visiting on 24th January for a Day would love some advice

Hi, I've got to be completely honest, i thought i'd get my girlfriend something quirky for christmas, and when i saw i could get very cheap flights to Charleroi, i thought why not go to Brugge and Brussels.

The impulse idea was a great idea, but now i have to ask because i know absolutely NOTHING about the City, i've done my research for the sightseeing, but now i want some very nice budget bars and places to eat, what prices are we talking? Because we've found some excellently cheap bars in Brussels (thanks to this website!), but can't find anywhere in Brugge. We will mainly be looking around the city in the day, but would love a cheap(ish) place to unwind in the night, so any recommendations for cheapish 'hidden' gems for Food or Drink?

Thank You

Hi

Here are a couple of guides to get you started:

brugge.be/files/uploads/document/cafegids.pdf

As a general guide avoid the bars around the Markt, they are over priced tourist places.

Where are you staying?

If you have not worked it out yet, item 16 on the FAQs gives you guidance on Charleroi to Brugge:

The Brugse Beertje is one of the best known beer bars in Bruges, and has a wide selection of Belgian Beers to try.

The Eiermarkt, just behind the main square (the Markt) has a selection of bars which are slightly less touristy (in my opinion)

For food, you could try the Bierbrasserie Cambrinus

or search on this forum for restaurant recommendations.

Hi, I'm staying not to far away from the station, i realise that's actually outside the City Centre, but with going to Brussels early in the morning, we didn't particularly want a long walk before we started.

We've got our trains sorted, no problem, so i'll looking into the places you have suggested, and not go to the Markt for a drink! Thanks!

To get your bearings, the station is in the bottom left hand corner of the map on the Cafe Guide pdf.

From the station walking to the 't Zand area will take about 10 minutes and to the centre (Markt) will take about 20 - 25 minutes (not allowing for distractions!)

if you have time the brewery visit is worth it.

Def visit the Beer Wall for reasonably priced beer during the day which is really quirky and Druids Cellar for evening drinks (Irish bar in Belgium I hear you say! but its a lovely little spot hidden just off the main square).
