Confetti in Ypres!

We have just returned from Ypres. We arrived on Sunday 14th Feb and at the station we saw masses of confetti on the forecourt and we just assumed there had been a wedding party....

However, the whole town seemed to be under a carpet of confetti.

Have we missed a celebration/festival ?

You probably missed a carnival parade, it being Mardi Gras and all

Wouldn't Mardi Gras have been this Tuesday though? (16th)

It was also bitterly cold and we wondered who on earth would have been out on the streets throwing confetti! :-)

Thanks for the suggestion.......anyone offer any other suggestion?

Amongst many other places in Flanders, there were many carnival parades that weekend and participants were not always warmly dressed. The beer does the rest.

Hee hee, I imagine you need the beer to keep warm :-)

I have a review of our trip pending publication, we stayed at the Novotel. LOVED Ypres (and Ghent) and are recommending it to everyone.

Thanks for solving the mystery for us!

Best wishes

Elaine

Sunday is usually when the big parade goes through town and they love to throw confetti.

We must have just missed it then as we arrived at 17.25 on the Sunday and it looked pretty fresh. What a shame, it sounds a lot of fun!

Thanks again
