Galveston Island virgins

So - my husband and I are treating our young son and his wife to a night this weekend. We need information quick!

Best Beach?

Best Attraction?

Best local - casual restaurant?

They are hard working young professionals in Houston and we are trying to give them a fun weekend away - and it's this weekend!!!!!

Depending on their taste in what they like to do, best attraction could be the new Pleasure Pier, the Schlitterbahn (probably more for kids), or strolling The Strand. The weather Saturday (at least in Houston) is supposed to be rainy with thunderstorms, so check forecasts in Galveston, as well).

Best beach is probably Stewart Beach (it has the most sand).

All restaurants are pretty casual. A little more upscale, but to my taste, the best restaurant in Galveston is Paco and Rudy's. Shearn's in the Moody Garden Hotel is another very good one (with a great view). While neither is extremely expensive, they are two of the more expensive ones in Galveston.

All beaches are different. Will they want a party beach (East Beach), family style with concessions and bathrooms (Stewart Beach), a quieter beach (any of the pocket beach parks...Jamaica, Indian), or the accessible seawall beaches, but not alot of sand here.

Schlitterbahn is still only half open, with just the heated indoor section opened. It is a good option for them though. There are several museums there if they are in to historical things. Pleasure Pier is nice, again watch the weather forecast.

Stroll the Strand and stop for homemade candy and ice cream at an old fashioned soda shop, La King's Confectionary. Gumbo Bar and Mosquito Cafe are really good.
