After Porto

We are staying in Porto for a week and can't decide what to do afterwards. we have 8 days to fill and not sure whether to do the coast line of portugal via train doing stop overs or head into spain. I really want to go where it's hot with nice beaches but also things to do.

If we decide to go to spain is it best to get the train from porto or fly? or get the train to lisbon and then maybe across to Valencia? or even up to San Sebastian?

There is an overnight train from Lisbon to Madrid, with a connection from Porto. That run alone takes 10 hours. There is nothing else.

If you want to head for Valencia and that past of Spain it's obviously going to be better to fly. You can do so from either Porto or Lisbon, via Madrid in all probability.

You can't really do the coastline of Portugal by train as the lines run inland. However a three hour to Lisbon by train and a few days there might be wroth it; the Lisbonites go to the beaches at Cascais etc which is another 40 - 45 minutes by local train.

There is also an overnight train from Lisbon/Porto to San Sebastian but from my experiences it is not a particularly pleasant journey and gets to San Sebastian at around 630am.

Trains at www.cp.pt; long-distance buses into Spain at www.alsa.es and www.eurolines.com

TAP and Vueling airlines fly Portugal - Spain.

Hope that helps a bit.

Agree with cubsur.

Just to add: Ryanair flies from Porto to Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia.

By the way, if you’re looking for nice beaches whilst in Porto, then you need to go about 10km south (where you’ll find a long stretch of continuous blue flag beaches like Miramar, Francelos, Aguda and Espinho) or north around Póvoa de Varzim. Some of the places are reachable by train form Porto

thanks, we have made the decision to get the train to lisbon and then fly to madrid and from there I'm looking into trains to cadiz and and seville.

What can you recommend to see in Lisbon or where we could stay that is nice but still reasonable in price? Also to get to the airport is it best to get a taxi or the train? And how much and how far roughly?
