Looking for a fun, charming, gay-friendly beach town

Hi Forum. We are spending 8 days in Portugal in Sept. 2011. We'd like to stay 4 days in a gay-friendly (or at least young and lively) beach town, and finish the trip with 4 days in Lisbon. Have not found any info, but was thinking may be Cascais (with day trip option to Sintra), or somewhere in Algarve (but not sure where, and the travel time and distance is a concern since we won't have a car). We are a young gay couple from New York, and love a cool and charming seaside setting [examples: Sitges, Spain (Torremolinos too, but not as nice) or Cinque Terre, Italy]. We are not necessarily into a big gay scene, just looking for a happening beach vibe - liberal crowd , and nude beach a plus. Any recommendations?

Not a clue really but there is a gay guest house in Albufeira and even if you don't venture down to the Algarve, if no-one else helps you, maybe if you contact them, they will advise you about Cascais, etc. www.thermas-pride.com/ENG/index-ENG.html. Also use the Trip Advisor search box to search for more info.
