Advice pls. Duoro valley by train or car, pinhao or pocinho

Would appreciate some advice. We were wanting to visit the duoro valley and stay for a couple of nights at either pinhao or pocinho. We were hoping to catch the train, have a boat trip, and do some walking.

Is the train the better option? Or should we get a car? If we did get a car could we hire it from regua rather than porto?

Comments on ta say that scenery gets better the further up the duoro valley. so would it be better to go on to pocinho?, rather than stopping at pinhao?

We were also thinking of going on to foz coa from there. Is regua then the best / only place to rent a car from to get there?

Advice greatly appreciated.

"to visit the duoro valley and stay for a couple of nights... We were also thinking of going on to foz coa" You'll need a car. Stay at Pinhão. I suppose that it's possible to rent a car at Régua.

Pocinho is as far as the train goes but there is nothing there really. Just take the first train out of there. The train journey from Pinhao to Pocinho is very much worth it.

Stay in Peso de Regua and from there you may enjoy a small boat cruise: http://www.douroacima.pt/barcos_E.htm

The car rental company there is Europcar: europcar.com/car-rental-PESO_DA_REGUA.html

I don't know that there are any car rental companies in Pinhão.

I am looking for public transportation from Vega Terron Spain to Porto, portugal. Are there day boats that provide this service? If that isn't possible maybe hire a driver to take us back? Open to any suggestions. Please provide names of services if you have them. We are 4 Seniors.

The name of the dock or port you probably refer to is Muelle Vega Terron, but it is located in the town of Fregeneda. There are no boats.

If you want to hire a driver it's best to post on the Spain forum!

There are no easy public transports there. Take a taxi to Pocinho, from there you have trains to Régua and Porto. https:/…porto_regua_pocinho.pdf
