Two weeks to enjoy Portugal!

We are a couple from US in our 60's on our first trip to Portugal. Tentatively plan to fly into Porto in mid-October, stay in an apartment on the Douro for 4 days and explore. We will take public transport to Santarem and stay one night at the Santarem Hotel to attend the National Gastronomy Festival, then travel again by public transport to Lisbon, likely choosing an apartment in Belem for 8 nights. Then we'll fly home from Lisbon. Where can I find out more about getting from the airport to the apartment, getting from the apartment to the most efficient transport, etc.? I was given a website but it's not working very well to pull up timetables, maps, etc.

Please feel free to offer any advice, suggestions, recommendations regarding the above and any other thoughts that this note inspires. Is there a Douro River day trip on a Ribero that goes to a winery or two that's reliable and reasonable? We would prefer to go with a group rather than book a private tour, for financial reasons. And thank you for being willing to share your knowledge/expertise. Bonnie N

For trains in Portugal https://www.cp.pt/cp/displayPage.do…

There are lots of bus companies but this group does all the major destinations http://www.rede-expressos.pt/

Usually the day cruises along the Douro do a visit to a winery, here is a list with some companies www.bestofdouro.com/cruzeiros-no-douro/

"getting from the airport to the apartment" where, in Lisboa? At Belem you can have mainly buses, but it depends on where in Belem the apartment is.

Hello

I think 8 days is a long time in Lisbon.

I suggest Évora

You can travel by train (about 1h30m) stroll into town and World Heritage Site at the end of day return to Lisbon by train again.

Personally - I would not stay in Belem.

We plan to make day trips during our 7 days. Evora could be on the list but the link you sent didn't seem to have any English version. Please advise.... Thank you.

This is THE MOST helpful site! Thank you! We are still looking at apartments in Belem - thinking near water if possible.

Also, we are flying into Porto, staying across the bridge on the River Douro on Avenida Diogo Leite. We were told our taxi fare would be about 30 euros so are trying to figure alternatives.

From Porto airport take the metro to Trindade and then, at Trindade, the bus 900, 901 or 906 to Avenida Diogo Leite. You can use the same ticket (Andante Z4)
