Walking

I will be travelling to Portugal in October, 2014. I've heard there are lots of hills. Just want to know if I should be breaking in a new pair of shoes!

Whereabouts in Portugal? We have tall and rugged mountains in the north east and a lot of flat land elsewhere, with many hills even in cities and towns.

Lisboa has, according to tradition, 7 hills. Sintra is in a small mountain. Nazaré, itself, has a very flat area by the beach a funicular to the upper area (sítio). Óbidos is a village it has the stairs to go up to the walls. Porto has hills and the Douro Valley is very steep (hence being Unesco's patrimony).
