Any good advice on where to stay in Algarve?

Hello i wonder if any one can help me. Me and my boyfriend are looking to visit the Algarve for a 10 day holiday in July. Our top must have is a beautiful beach, followed by a good choice of restaurants and bars at night. Nothing to rowdy!

Can any one suggest an ideal location and a hotel situated close to the beach?!

Many, many thanks!

Quinta Petra Doc Bicos in Santa Eulalia.

There's reviews of it on the left of this page, and a few threads about them on this forum too.

(Just put the name of the apaertments in the search box on the forum.)

Fab! We love staying there.

Thank you very much, will check it out! So you suggest Alberfia as a good place to stay in the Algarve? Whats it like there? Is it a bit rowdy sometimes??

What about Vilamoura? Beautiful beach, lovely marina which is full of restaurants and bars (although not as many as Albufeira). It's not too lively a resort (no nightclubs afaik) but might suit your needs. The Tivoli Marinotel is lovely - front of the hotel is on the marina, the back of the hotel is on the beach.

Thanks for your reply, that does sound nice. I will check this out as well! Not really after any clubs just restaurants and bars!

What is Lagos like? It looks like it has nice beaches but does it in real life?

Albufeira gives you a mix.

If you want *loud* then the Strip of a night during peak season is that. '

I wouldn't say it's rowdy though, and we have been going there since 1997.

Then you have all the bars and restaurants away from the Strip - of which there are plenty.

The apartments I mentioned in Santa Eulalia are right by the beach, with many great bars and restaurants in the immediate vicinity, and a 10-15 minute walk to the Strip.

(Ideally placed in my opinion.)

And then there is The Old Town which is just what it says - the Old Town - so it's quainter, with narrow windy side streets as well as a newly refurbished Town Square which usually has street entertainers all round it of an evening.

There are many bars and restaurants there too.

www.holiday-rentals.co.uk is a good site to use.

hotel jupitor in praia da rocha will be the ideal place to go. hotel is right opposite the biggest most beautiful beach in the algarve. the place has some nice eating places and bars and i think there is one club, but we have never gone to it so cannot tell you about it.there is a casino and the beach has a broad walk right along it lenth with new bars that have showers and toilets behind them . the broadwalk goes all the way to the harbour where the yaghts are and more restaraunts.buchananglasgow

Lisa in my opinion Lagos or Carvoeiro qould be great choices.Lagos is a Portuguese town has lovely beaches around the town which is typical Portuguese great resturants and bars both touristic and where the locals gather. As for carvoeiro it has the most beautifull beach in The Algarve in my opinion called Praia do Marinho,it is a lovely village with nice resturants and bars and asmall beach by the front of the village,Carvoeiro has nice coves around you could vist Sitio da Boneca for some stunning viws and swim in one of the coves around there.

Lisatrendy,

I am sure the other suggestions have their merits, but, overall, I would strongly recommend Lagos. I am going back in 2 weeks, and various friends who holiday regularly on the Algarve reckon it's still the best place. It's about 52 miles from the airport, but a train takes about about 90 to 100 minutes. There are loads of bars and restaurants, and if you stay at the hotel Tivoli Lagos, they have their own beach club, with a free bus, about 2 kilometres out. It's also a huge beach, many miles long, plus there are several small town beaches, and a large yacht marina. . In a word, it's classy, but the nightlife is probably not hugely vibrant. That's the trade-off.Class or loud and noisy.
