UK registered cars

I am curious to know why there are so many UK registered cars in the Algarve, more in recent years.

I understood you had to register a car in Portugal if you kept it there for over 6 months, also these cars would need a vailid UK MOT, but everytime we go we see the same cars, still on UK plates.

Can anyone shed any light on this, it would be goo to know purely out of curiosity,

Well one thought is that people are just regular visitors. The other thoughts are that they are either ignorant of the rules or are deliberately flouting them.

it can costs thousands to get a car re-registered here, which no doubt puts some people off.

The GNR would no doubt have a word or two say if they found such at one of the regular traffic stops.

A lot of people ignore the law. Those of us who live here who have paid alot for a Portuguese car or gone through the stress of matriculation disapprove of these people ;-)

I know a few people who were caught for not matriculating their cars and the fines ran into thousands. It really isn't worth it.
