Sao Rafael - How many bars and restaurants

Does anyone know (apart from the beach bars) how many bars or restaurants there in Sao Rafael ?

Do the beach bars serve food at night ?

Also, does the minimarket sell things for BBQ's ?

Thanks all

Sao Rafael covers quite an area and runs into Gale,if I use CS hotel as a starting point , chinese restaurant opposite and english bar, supermarket only sells frozen/tinned items for BBQ but fresh fruit and veg,we get a atxi to Mondelo for fresh meat and fish.Next door is Portugese restaurant called Margem Sol,little further up the road a portugese bar that serves some food(nothing special but very reasonable on food and drink(white sangria to die for!!) and food is ok) .Then Ponte Grande hotel with restaurant and behind that the sunshine restaurant. These are within 5 minutes walking distance from CS,you then have a good 20 min walk to several other restaurants .Sao Rafael is not a busy resort regarding restaurants and bars, not alot going on but in saying that we having been going 2-3 times a year for the last 8 years(before the CS hotel was even built!!)Never eaten on the beach so not sure of opening times. If you know where abouts your stopping may be able to give you more info

There are some nice bars and restaurants in the Sesmarias area, only about 15-20 minutes walk from Sao Rafael. Not sure about the minimarkets, but you can get barbecue stuff in the Apolonia supermarket in Gale.

Have a read - may be a bit out of date.

I think our Villa is near the CS hotel. 15 walk to the Marina on google maps.

Is Sesmarias 15-20 walk west ? Do we just walk along the coast ?

Also, heard a lot about JK's. Is that in Sao Rafael ?

JK's is in Sesmarias and not all that far from S Rafael.

They have a website with a map

http://www.jksbar.com/

The CS hotel is about a mile from JK's I reckon. Along the Estrada das Sesmarias, past the Baia Grande hotel, past the turning to Praia do Castelo on your left then next right into Estrada do Castelo and you're there.

You cannot actually walk along the coast between S Rafael and Galé as it is rough cliffs. The road (Estrada das Sesmarias) runs a quite away inland. The cliffs do make a fairly good walk (not on the way back from a bar) but there are no marked paths, just rough tracks, lots of holes to fall down and brambles and things.

Eventually, heading west, you come out onto Galé beach.

Thanks Cubsur, trying to figure it out on the google map. I understand and can follow the Estrada Das Sesmarias bit but then i cant find the Praia Do Castelo.

Is it near Praia do Coelha or the EN1282?

Praia de Castelo is due south of Rua Castelo EN1282, down Rua de Torre Velha. There is a roundabout shown on EN1282 - that is where JKs is.

We walk to JKs from by CS hotel,if we do a straight walk about 20 mins but we usually stop at the portugese bar or go to scoobys for happy hour(JK's is only 3 mins from here) on the way.

If you find there number on the website they will always come and pick you up (free of charge)and take you home again
