11 Weeks to go, a few Q's please.

Hi I go to Albuifeira in March time and was wanting a few quiestions answering if possible as haven't been to the Algarve since 1998.

1) Will there be many bars or restaurants open that early in the season? if so anywhere you would recommend? we are staying in the Hotel Sol e mar right by the square.

2) what type of weather can we expect?

3) has there been any more reports of attacks and muggings around the area lately?

4) have lots of restaurants and bars gone bankrupt as I have been told there are a lot suffering because of the euro?

Thanks

1. A lot of the places whose main trade is tourists will be closed but down in and around the square there are always places open. Just a few yards from the Sol e Mar, to the left as you come out of the door, there is a British run bar called Tunes, open every day and a couple of smalll restaurants opposite.

2. Daytimes 15 - 18C, night-times 10C, rainy days a possibility.

3. No.

4. Not yet but the massive tax rises coming into efffect here on 1st January will increase the price of EVERYTHING by at least 10%.That will certainly put paid to some establishments. This is a direct result of government incompetence, which they are seeking to redress by punishing the populace.

Try to enjoy your visit!

most of if not all of your questions have been answered in previous posts/questions you have made about Albufeira there have been a few instances of places closing a few but not many, what most places are doing are not opening through winter to save costs and not opening till later than they normally would everywhere will open for Easter but thats to soon for your visit, prices are due to go up by at least 10% because of big rises in vat on everything including food, electric.water, etc etc there will still be more than enough places to eat out and drink for your break

Hi, Opposite your hotel and Halfway down the steps into the old town there is a nice restaurant Casa da Fonte we have been going there for years, their prices have stayed steady for quite some time but unfortunately they may have to hike them up now. Opposite is their bar 'Steps' not sure it will be open though. Enjoy Albufiera in march we always have.

Be interested to hear what impact the fiscal measures have had on the established businesses have had - The Cottage and Diskwhiz spring to mind....

Nat asking for self ads - I know you better - just what is happening to service industries?

Homekey I am not looking forward to looking at my bank balance deminishing on all these rises in IVA as an owner of property. IVA increased from 1st Oct 2011 on electricity from 6% to 23% WOW what a rise, then 4% increase on the electricity costs per unit & maybe standing charge as well from Jan 2012. Gas already at 23% IVA and now the increase on restaurants & other businesses IVA from 13% to 23%. Plus the damned toll charges on A22. I am sure this is going to have a real dire affect.

Thanks everyone.

It's so sad when well established restaurants, bars and Hotels will have to close due to these extremely high increases.

We are only going for a chill out few days and as long as there are 1 or 2 nice restaurants and bars near the Hotel we are happy :-) If not we shall drink vino on the Balcony overlooking the fab Atlantic ocean... gotta be better than work :-)

It is so important for everyone to support local businesses in any way that they can, to help them keep going during these tough times. Happy Holidays and Happy New Year everyone. Keep smiling.
