There is a fantastic restaurant in Alcantarilha, just 5 minutes drive away. Coming out of Quinta da Saudade, turn right and follow the road. You then get a choice, left to Aramaçao de Pera, right to Alcantarilha. Go straight over the roundabouts and instead of heading onto the EN125, cross straight over again, into the Old Town, towards the church. The restaurant O Cantinho is in the main square of the Old Town, Lago do Igreja, opposite the Church. Next to the church you can also view the Chapel of Bones.

The restaurant is small with a wonderful atmosphere, outstanding fresh fish, clams, prawns brought flaming to the table, the best seafood rice, etc. It is open every day for lunch and dinner, closed on Tuesdays. Ph (+351) 282 373 205.

Another option pretty much within walking distance is Salgados Mar, a typical family run and very unpretentious but nice Portuguese restaurant, much enjoyed by locals, on the side road to Salgados golf/resort. Turn left from Quinta da Saudades towards Vale Parra , then turn right opposite Museu dos Salgados. The latter named restaurant is also very good, but with a more refined menu, and prices to suit, but very nice location for a special night out.,

For boat trips, you will can drive the couple of miles or so to Armacao de Pera, where they have little boats, once fishing boats, that do short trips of an hour or so around the caves.

For something longer or more dramatic or both, it's about three miles drive to Albufeira marina from where all sorts of boat trips operate.

All kinds of trips but at busy times you may have to go there first and book head, coming back a day or three later.

There is a big underground car park under the road at the marina where the shops are, just beyond the water feature. Don't be tempted to park at surface level as, miracle of miracles, the parking regulations (ie, don't) are actually being enforced and vehicles illegally parked are towed away.

The cynics amongst us believe that this enforcement is because you only get so many hours free parking underground (I think it's three) whereas up top it's free and the Portuguese really absolutely hate paying to park and will go anywhere even if it is illegal.

Cubsur, there are now parking bays at the Marina, on the shops/cafe side. I don't know if there are parking restrictions though.
