Please tell us what type of food you like and dislike! Albufeira has places for just about every possible taste and lack thereof.

Donaldos at the very bottom of the strip.

Country Cockerel on a side road half way down the strip.

Pizza Expresso just down from worms roundabout by Forte do Vale

Plenty of places in old town which can't remember names of.

Os Compadres is the obvious place to go for their 8 euro set menu.

Bread

Soup

Main (several choices) rib eye and mixed grill recommended

Dessert (several choices)

Coffee

Drink (can include 1/2 litre of house wine or other drink).

(have I missed anything off?) lol

I've just had a laugh reading that negative review (always one!). Perhaps from a competitor? ;-))

A few on this forum and a couple we met at Os Compadres recommended O Poente (a bit out though and may need a taxi unless in that area).

I'll give it a try next time, and compare with Os Compadres.

Casa Madeira does a good 6.90 euro lunch menu and worth a visit. Doesn't look inviting from the outside, but like a tardis inside. On the hill out of the Old Town towards Brisa Sol.

O Veleiro - similar to Os Compadres and slightly dearer at 10.50 euros. Not as good main choices as Os Compadres and I would choose Os Compadres every time. In the Old Town (back street) though and great service. Cheap for where and what it is.

Theres lots of restaurants in the Old Town that serve delicious food at brilliant prices. You just need to take a stroll round and have a look at some of the boards outside and see what each restaurant offers. Lets say you can have a 3 course with a drink for around 10 euros and you will be spoilt for choice. Have you looked at reviews on Trip Advisor "Albufeira restaurants"?. Theres loads of recommendations. Take time to read through the reviews.

I do not doubt that Os Compadres is great value for the price but the OP specifically asked for nice restaurants which are not always the cheapest. Would this restaurant be suitable to go for a special birthday meal? What is the atmosphere like?
