1st Time Booking for Carvoeiro
Save

Hi all. Thinking of booking Carvoeiro ( open to other suggestions ). We have been to Albuferia 4 times and really enjoyed it but think we want to see somewhere else and didnt want to go to Spain. We are travelling with 2 young kids ( 1 and 5 ) and we like evenings in the square in the old town and the shopping and restaurants etc in Albuferia. Would Carvoeiro suit us?? also can anyone suggest a hotel with entertainment for the kids??? Open to the idea of other resorts also.

Carvoeiro is a lovely family-orientated resort. My avatar is a picture of the beach taken from one of the roads leading up to the cliffs at either side.

It has plenty of bars and restaurants and usually, in peak season, some sort of entertainment on the stage in the main square adjacent to the beach.

There's not much in the way of shopping though - a smattering of tourist shops selling beachwear and the usual array of souvenirs.

Lagos may suit you better, if shopping is a must-have. It has loads of restaurants and bars, and there's also a main square where there's generally something happening, day or night.

Because it's a proper town - albeit one with a beach and a marina - there's also loads of shops. Proper ones, not just those selling tourist tat.

i can't help you with hotel recommendations as we have always stayed self-catering when staying in either of the resorts.

Carvoeiro is mainly self catering accommodation all very good. There are 3 hotels. Tivoli which is currently being upgraded to 5*. The mirochoro I think that's the right spelling and hotel sol which will be very noisy as it faces the main square. Tivoli may have kids entertainment but can't be certain. It's a lovely place. I have a second home there so I am a bit biased. Alvor might be another option for you.

I agree. Alvor is another lovely, family-orientated resort.

The only reason I didn't mention it is the lack of any real main square with entertainment as in Albufeira, Carvoeiro and Lagos.

We loved it but our lad was a lot older than the OP's when we went and didn't really need to be entertained as such.

Carvoeiro has entertainment in the square 7 nights week from June until the end of September.

It is not Albufeira a bit more upmarket and the beach is small.

It is hilly which might not suit those if they have small children to push or tow around.

It is our second home and would not want to be anywhere else in the Algarve.

You will love Carvoeiro! Like the other poster said it is a bit hilly depending on where you stay but the small beach & lovely setting makes up for it. There are various things to do with the kids, the aqua park is a 10 minute drive away, marina beach is around 15 minutes away where you can hire pedlo type things.

Carvoeiro resort is a small nice place to either visit or stay.

However, it is no where as vibrant for some people as Albufeira,

Having really enjoyed our stay at the Tivoli Carvoeiro last year during 2016 we went to re-book for this year and found that the 2017 prices seem to have increased by some 100%.

If you like Albufeira may be look for alternative accommodation within.

Biker Steve. I drove past the tivoli today. It's being half demolished 3 massive cranes on site. It will re open as a 5 star resort which is probably why the price hike. Great spot though.
