We went to Faro from Albufeira in Feb. Lovely city especially inside the old walled town where a look in the cathedral and climbing the tower for a view over the city and the salt marshes is a must. Around the square by the cathedral are lovely old buildings, rows of orange trees and nice restaurants serving good authentic portuguese dishes. Just outside the walls is the main shopping area with a good array of shops and also the marina. You can take boat trips out around the salt marshes from here. We felt that we ought to look at the city rather than it being just a place you fly in and out of and only see an airport terminal and we were not disappointed.
Have a look also at my thread wonderful tailor made day trips of the Algarve (put it in the search box), can highly recommend.
