I suppose it's possible that reviews won't be as glowing toward the end of the season.

I think like yourself paultugal I take these reviews as a very broad guide, and goodness forbid that anyone would make one up!

Walking up the main drag (April 25) tonight (Oct 5), all the diners at O Charco, Sebastio, Carvela, Os Arcos, Venezia, D.Henrique, looked pretty happy to us, and pretty much every table was taken. Happy days.

I hope its not tit for tatting as you put it, it would make it fairly pointless for the genuine reviewers that are trying to give advice to others. For myself I try to review from my own personal viewpoint bearing in mind that we all have our own individual taste. Personally I have never had a bad meal in Lagos but there are one or two restaurants I personally wouldn't return to.

I feel that a restaurant has to be very bad before i put a negative review. It is always a matter of personal taste. One mediocre meal does not warrant an attempt to destroy a restaurants reputation.

However if i have enjoyed a particular establishment on several occasions I do like to share the experience with others and reward the restaurant with good reviews to help boost their trade.

Where a restaurant has a number of reviews you can take the overview. Few places can please all of the people all of the time.

I agree that restaurants can have their bad nights and it would be unfair to judge them on that for eternity. That said if someone has had stinking service (in my personal opinion) they should have the right to review it accordingly.

As an addendum.

As much as I love the place I don't think we should get too carried away believing that all restaurants in Lagos are of an acceptable "value for money standard". There are many that (in brutal truth) are very average.

It's a case of finding the good ones, of which thankfully there are enough to make up a large minority.

I think it's important to keep an open mind, I generally ignore reviews from people with just 1 post who write a review.
