Surfboard on public transport or scooter hire in Lagos

Hey, heading to Lagos in September. Taking my own surf board and staying at the VitaSol park. For those times that my arms are too tired to carry my board to/from the beach, is it possible to take it on to public transport i.e. busses?

Alternatively, as a cheaper form of transport than a car, is there scooter hire available with surf rack attachments?

Guess a final questions would be if neither of the above are possible, are taxis happy to load a surfboard?

Failing that I wonder if I might be able to leave my surfboard with a friendly local shop/hotel on the beach to store my board in whilst I stay.

Any ideas on this would be very much welcome!

Thanks

I have never seen anyone with a surfboard on the local buses in Lagos. Since most are minibuses, I venture to say that it simply is not possible.

And since the Vita Sol park is about 400 metres from the nearest bus stop (near the Marina) that may be fairly academic. The beach at Meia Praia is only about 500 metres from Vita Sol Park, if that was the beach you were intending to visit.

Sorry I cannot answer the second part of the question.

For scooter hire: http://www.motorent.pt/ You will need to ask them if they can accomodate you re. your surfboard.

Same goes for taxis, here are a few of them:

I think your idea of storage is the best good one. Shopkeepers will be happy to make some extra money. Or ask one of the beach clubs. Last solution is asking your hotel for some more ideas (or maybe they know people who work in the beach clubs): www.vitasolpark.net/pt/vitasol-park/contactos

Taxis in Lagos will NOT be happy to carry surfboards.....they are to proud of their "pristine vehicles"!

The best surfing is not in Lagos but on the west coast 30km to the west of Lagos. You may be able to load your board on an EVA bus from Lagos to Sagres, but you still have to get to the beaches. The best ways to this is either to hire a car or touch base with one of the regular Surf businesses that offer transport to the best beaches.

Google list of some of them here: http://bit.ly/16t4JO4

The oldest is the Surf Experience.

I am not aware of any scooter hire with racks.

In addition to motorent.pt, also contact Sidecar rentals:

They also operate out of the Luzcar office on the Avenida.

From personal experience and experience with clients!

Many taxis at the taxi rank in Lagos do not like carrying "out of size" objects as "podem provocar danos"! (cause damages.)

ahh ok thanks...

well... from memory not many of them have over the roof that protections to carry stuff, and inside the car most of them are mercedes that doesnt have that space for a board, that's what i think eheheh maybe im wrong but i could understand the point of some of the taxi drivers.

the only taxis i can remember now that have enought space its the ones that can take 8 people inside... i suppose in that ones the taxi driver cant complain about the lack of space if he only carries a guy with a board ehehhehe
