A Day in Lagos

We are planning on spending the day in Lagos tomorrow and would love suggestions on what to see and any tips. We will be driving from Carvoeiro. We have already toured all the areas of Luz westward, so we can spend the full day in Lagos.

We would like to walk the cliffs, as well as get on a small boat for a water tour of the caves. Possibly spend some time at one of the beaches and a great place to lunch. If there is anything interesting in the town, we could do that as well later in the day. We are active, so a hike and all the steps to beaches will not be an issue.

I would also love any insider tips on where to park and the best way to see everything.

Thanks!

Praia de Porto de Mos --> Lighthouse / Piedade ---> Praia Dona Ana ---> Fire station is a good walk, plenty of beaches (busy ones and quiet ones), plenty of lunch/drink opportunities, great views. You'll need a map to find entry/exit points.

The bit immediately south of Praia Dona Ana was virtually impassible last year, and I doubt it's been fixed.

ENJOY.

I would park at the marina, there is a car park behind the marina club hotel.

Walk through the marina along the front with the town across the road.

If you continue up to the old fort ,you can catch a boat which will take you to the caves

I suggest lunch at cafe do mar which is above the fort and has great views of the bay, or Barrigada which is by the boat yard and meia praia beach ,a 2 min drive from the car park, or if you take the boat trip, when you get back you can take a little ferry boat across the entrance to the marina and the restaurant is in front of you.

Another idea would be to catch the train that runs from the side of the marina offices,up to the light house at ponte piedade ,from there you can walk along the cliffs towards Lagos, you can take the steps down to the caves ,and small beach.

The walk then passes dona ana beach which is stunning , but the sand is very coarse.

Continue the coastal route and you will exit on to the coastal road just above restaurant cafe do mar

If you decide to take the train out to ponte de piedade you can also do a grotto trip from there which is very good and the guides are very informative.

Thank you all! If we want to end at Cafe do Mar for a late lunch, is there a place to park near there? I'm thinking we could walk out to pointe de piedade from there, then do the grotto boat trip. Afterwards, hike along the cliffs, stop at praia dona, then back to the restaurant.

Also, Is there anything worthwhile to see in Lagos town after lunch? Maybe walk along the waterfront area as paultugal suggested?

Theres a small capark on the roadside outside of Cafe do mar.

If its full ,continue up the hill and theres another small one on your left, on the bend opposite the fire station.

When you have finsihed at the restaurant walk up the hill and just before the afore mentioned car park take left turn down a small road towards the sea ,this will take you past (also a very famous persons house, alleged ) dona ana beach
