4 day Trip from Lisbon

Am trying to organise a 4 day hire car trip from Lisbon after a conference wanting to see a bit of the real Portugal. Although didn't want to spend all day travelling with limited time available. Possible itinerary Day 1 Lisbon via Obidos to Nazare or maybe onto Tomar. Day 2 to Aveiro either via Tomar or from Tomar via Figueria da Foz and Bucaco. Day 3 from Aviero via Guarda to Castelo Branco or Tomar. Day 4 either direct to Lisbon via Santerim or via Evora and Arraiolos. Haven't been to Portugal before so looking for some help on which of these places are worth visiting. Or possibly a refined intinerary from the above from an experieced traveller. Had thought of the Algarve but plenty of nice beaches etc in Australia.Grateful of helpful replies

Four days is a short time to visit that much of Portugal. You might want to consider going either north or south. To the north, Obidos is a must see even if only for a couple hours. Nazare, Cascais, and Estoril are coastal cities with lots of retaurants/shops, and beach. Coimbra is inland and a very nice historical City. Sintra is beautiful and sits on a mountain top and is another place that never dissapoints. North of Aveiro is Viana do Castelo, a really cool seaside village with a castle on the hill, neat street to walk around, a harbor, etc. If you want to go to a big city, Porto is great. So...what to do?? If I had the 4 nights, I would leave Lisbon very early and go to Sintra. Stay there all day and night. The next day stop and visit Obidos on the way to Coimbra. Stay the night in Coimbra. Next day drive and stay the night in Viana do Castelo. Pick something headed back towards Lisbon for your last night. Ok...to the south...Evora is a must see if you want a more medieval experience. Also Marvao (walled whitewashed city). Further south in the Algarve area is Sagres and a small sleepy beach town called Salema. There is a person that posts here named Cinania that will hopefully reply to your post and is much more knowledgable and may provide you some better information. Wherever you decide to go, do some advance research on them and have fun!!

Thanks for the advice. We have decided to go Lisbon to stay in Nazare via Obidos as we visit Sintra while in Lisbon. Next day to Tomar via Batalha and Leiria. Then next day onto Evora via Marvao. The fourth day back to Lisbon via Arrajolos. So should be reasonably leisurely with not too much driving and time to take in the sights etc.
