Hi, are there any Fado houses that are not too touristy we could go to when we go to Lisbon in April?

thanks,

They are open all year around and all are touristy, even if the majority of tourists in the house are portuguese.

Well, are there any where you'd find locals from Lisbon??

Is it only out of towners who are interested in that sort of music?

This is an interesting web site about Fado:

Lori - Will be difficult to find on Fado house just for locals... they're tourist ones, for both Portuguese and others.

Hi Lori

It's true that Fado houses are a touristic atraction in Lisbon but, that doesn't mean they are all tourist traps.

Some are indeed too tourist-oriented for my tastes (most of them in Bairro Alto).

But there are many others, especially in the old neighbourhoods of Alfama and Mouraria where you'll find a great mix of locals and tourists.

My favourite places are the "Fado Vadio" restaurants and taverns, where the singers are all amateurs, the food is simple and good traditional portuguese fare, the atmosphere is real and the bill won't break your bank...

If you want, I can give you a small list of my personal favourites.

Cheers,

Paulo
