I am staying at R dos Cordoeiros (near Elevador Bica) can anyone tell me where a decent supermarket is for fresh veg, meat, fish bread, wine etc.

Shiraz64 - If you see that a standart market will do the trick, then 64novpt is right: go to Mercado da Ribeira.

If you want a gourmet supermarket, then you have tpo travel to the "El Corte Ingles" shopping center, because there you'll find THE best supermarket in Lisbon.
