Top things to do in Lisbon with chidlren

We are spending a week in Lisbon, arriving next week, and I'm looking for ideas of things to do with our children aged 11 and 9 - plus grandmother for good measure!

We are stying near Cabo da Roca, but want to take in a bit of city life too, a mix of sightseeing and maybe something that's fun to do too.

Tram 28 sounds good, and the Oceanario. Any advice appreciated!

We've just looked at Kidzania, and my children think it looks brilliant. Thanks Lisbontaxi, wouldn't have found it otherwise.

Kidzania is fine although very far from Lisbon's centre. Unless you use a taxi there is no practical way of a tourist getting there by public transportation.

It's in Dolce Vita Tejo, have a look:

Suggest you take them to Belem. It´s huge historic area by the river with gardens and monuments, don't forget to eat some Pasteis de Belem while there.

Parque das Nações is a must visit with children. Take them to Oceanário de Lisboa.

The castle is another place kids use to enjoy. bus 737 from Praça da Figueira or tram nº12 from the same place.

Colombo shopping centre has a funcentre for kids. Take subway, blue line, colégio militar/Luz. stop.

Go to Cascais and Estoril. kids enjoy sandy beaches.

My child liked Belem too because of the open space. People fishing running biking there and you have many cafes on rivers edge to enjoy the sights. The garden is nice to walk through. Tower of Belem is fun but monastery is just okay interesting for boy, great for us.Have them race down and up the 147 steps at St George Castle. The Archeology museum is interesting too. Its in what's left of a church after Big Earthquake. Part of it is in an open courtyard, there is a mummy and other curiosities inside. I assume you will go to Sintra? La Quinta da Regalia is so cool for kids what with the hidden caves and well.

Yes, Sintra is a fairy tale place for both kids and adults. The castle, Pena Palace, Quinta da Regaleira are a must visit spots. Than, take them to "Piriquita" to eat "travesseiros", like locals use to do.

Agree that Quinta da Regaleira is a must with (even without) kids. It's filled with artificial caves that turn into waterfalls. Also has an initiation well:

It was not made for kids but for freemasonry acts but children will love it.

Kids may also like disneylike Palácio da Pena in Sintra:
