city or coast

we are thinking of booking a holiday in Lisbon but are not sure whether to stay on the coast & day trip into Lisbon or vice versa - cost of hotel & food & drink need to be taken into account any ideas or recommendations gratefully received (probably staying 7 days)

If by the coast you mean Cascais area, and costs are a concern, stay at Lisboa. If you can consider a place a little bit far from Lisboa then consider a break between Lisboa and the coast.

I can recommend staying in Cascais and taking the short train ride into Lisbon.

Cascais is a beautiful place and imo not expensive.

Advise you to buy and read a good guide book on Portugal so you can decide on what you fancy the most coming back afterwords with some concrete questions we'll be happy to answer.
