Staying near Colombo Shopping Center -Mistake?

We are visiting Lisbon in October and are considering an apartment that is within our budget and has great space. But it is near the Colombo Shopping Center and we are wondering if that is too far outside the areas we will be touring? We walk a lot but I see that we will have to take the metro in to the city everyday to begin our walking tours. Is the metro fairly easy to navigate and is it cost effective? This apartment is priced great but if we have to pay for transportation every day, we are not sure if it is worth it. Thanks for you help!

I would stay more central. Have you looked at the website of waytoway? They have a lot of apartments in all price ranges in more central locations. We love being more central so you can sometimes go back during the day for an hour or so to relax or rest your feet.

The metro it's very easy to navigate, you don't have to do any change to go downtown metrolisboa.pt/eng/…. With the 24h ticket (5€) you'll have unlimited journeys at the metro, bus, tram and "elevadores". www.carris.pt/en/7-colinas-and-viva-viagem/ and http://www.carris.pt/en/pre-buy-ticket/

Nuno, you probably give good advice but could you stop promoting your own apartments please?

Hi,

Given that you already know that you'll have to take the metro everyday, i see no problem staying in the "Colombo area" (Although it would help to be more specific as what do you mean with "near Colombo"... ).

I do believe in trying to provide advice within the scope of the posters interests and restrictions.

So, if you did your research, probably you are looking at an opportunity to rent a bigger and less expensive place than closer to the center, which is perfectly fine if you are aware of the trade offs.

cheers,

miguel

Thank you! We are so torn! We found a great apartment at a great price within walking distance of Colombo shopping center and subway. You are right that there are trade offs and we are having a hard time deciding. Knowing that the metro system is easy to use is helpful.

In case you decide to stay there, make sure that your "walking distance" actually means one of the buildings across the street from Colombo.

Also, being a residential area, it tends to get deserted in the evenings, so it's sensible not to wonder around late. Same thing goes to the metro.

i would say it should be the same thing as in your home town...

cheers,

Miguel

Do you have the exact location of the apartment (street name) ?

As told earlier, i'd rather suggest other more central areas, but subway is quite good for you to go everywhere.
