Lisbon - Madrid by bus or train?

Has anyone ever tried to do this? What are the prices and how can I check timetables?

There is only one train a day, the overnight Tren Hotel operated by Spanish Railways.

You can find the times and prices at www.cp.pt look under 'Internacional' and the information will be in English if you click the little flag icon at the top of the page next to where it says Acesso Rápido.

There are several bus operators with both daytime and overnight journeys. These are a few

Most people fly, it is obviously quicker and sometimes cheaper than other means,

Thanks for that.

The cheapest flights for the dates I need are 85€ return (EasyJet) - I'm not sure if that's cheap for Madrid. I paid less before for other destinations. Also, there is a possibility that I might be able fly the day before but it's not certain yet, hence needing to check trains and buses. The day before would be cheaper.

Need to think.

Well the one way bus fare is around 42 Euros and that for an 8 - 10 hour journey.

Easyjet at 85 return for a 1 hour flight sounds good to me, even when you add in the cost and time of getting from city to airport and vice versa plus checkin times, baggage waiting time etc etc.

Do you travel from Portimao to Madrid?

You could take a bus to Ayamonte and from there a bus to Madrid (Socibus)

B will be doing the Lagos to Madrid run and back next week!

Train to Lisbon, cab to T2. Easyjet to Barajas.

Back a couple of days later with other half's purchases!

Socibus from Madrid to Sevilla! Overnight for Tapas and a few Vales in Seville! Then Damas next morning to Lagos!

OMG, what a journey! :(

I remember the first Ryanair flight from Faro to Madrid, it was 1 euro and we were on it.

When we arrived at the airport there was this great lunch buffet waiting for us to celebrate the inauguration. Wouldn't mind to have another experience of that.

Well, silly me didn't book the EasyJet flight straight away and now it has gone up. Argh! It's now 100€ each (nearly).

I am in Portimão but we were meant to go see Bon Jovi show June 26 and fly to Madrid the next day. So...can't leave from the Algarve.

See what Air Europa and Iberia do? They both have direct flights.

Even more expensive. The day before and after it's a bargain... I guess everyone is thinking the same. :(

Going to sleep on it and if by morning it's gone up again I'll quit. Thanks.
