How to Escape Lisbon Heatwave

We're in an apartment meant in Lisbon with our 6 month old and temperatures will near 100. Should we head to Porto by train? Any suggestions for cooler easy to travel to locations close by?

Porto is only about 3 C cooler. Down here in the Algarve (Albufeira) it's currently 32C because we have some sea breeze. But that's a 3 hour plus journey!

It should be cooler down by the sea near you eg Cascais.

Most of Portugal is in the grip of this heatwave - inland it is 41C.

The whole country has high temperatures atm, it wouldn't make much difference.

You could head south, but the only place which is cooler is Sagres, which is South/West.

Temperatures are 77-80F and there's always wind. It may even feel cool at night.

There's 1 daily direct bus connection between Lisbon and Sagres, leaving 07.30 arriving 12.40

Have a look at Google maps.

Cascais is expected to have 102F during the weekend.

Its 38 in Lisboa and only 31 in Faro. I would head to a beach in the Algarve. Ideally Madeira (23 max, 20 min) its the nicest place in the country at the moment.

Easyjet will get you to Paris by lunchtime tomorrow for 82 euros. The temperature is 69F. Maybe its time for some lateral thinking? The baby flies free.

Hi,

By now you've probably solved your problem...

anyway you could do the same as the ancient royalty...head up to cascais. or better yet, to Sintra.

Usually you can find a substantially lower temperature. and its just 30 mins away.

cheers,

miguel

We are in Lisbon and this morning headed to the cool forests of Sintra and this evening hopped a ferry over the bay for dinner. For sure it's hot - but any where near the water is cooler as thousands were out tonight sitting by the cool of the river.
