Going to Lisbon Area for 10 days with kids: Advice Please!

In July I will be flying into Lisbon and out again after 10 days with my boys - 12 and 6. Should we stay in Lisbon and area the whole time? Go to another area completely for part of the time? Where should we stay - in Lisbon proper or in Sintra or another area? Should we rent a car or depend on public transport. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Hi,

Ten days is quite a lot to stay only in Lisbon. not that you wouldn't find activities or trips to entertain you. Just that you're able to see the major attractions in 3/4 days and you could use the remaining time to visit Sintra, Cascais, Èvora, Óbidos, Tomar... Not all of them, but you could pick a couple.

there are already quite a few posts regarding itineraries in the area.

You can also get some ideas for activities with kids from here: lisbonportugal.com/things-to-do/activities-c…

In my opinion, with kids the essential visit is the Oceanário and maybe the Zoo. They always enjoy it.

Also, this link provides a map of childrens parks in Lisbon, it may become handy: https://maps.google.pt/maps/ms…

cheers,

miguel

It really depends on your interests! In 10 days you could see more than Lisbon and the area. You could rent a car and venture out into the country or use public transportation and divide your time between Lisbon and Porto, or stay in Lisbon half of the time (with a few day trips from there) and spend the other half on the coast, relaxing.

Let us know what you're typically looking to do when on holidays?

Hi maggie w

10 days allow you to see Lisbon and the surrounding areas. Lisbon could be your base and from there you can visit other places.

Taking in account that your boys are 6 and 12 years old, I leave some suggestions:

Lisbon - Oceanário (www.oceanario.pt), Zoo (www.zoo.pt), Pavilhão do Conhecimento (www.pavconhecimento.pt).

Outside Lisbon - Quinta da Regaleira and Sintra (www.regaleira.pt), Aldeia Típica de José Franco (aldeiatipicajfranco.pt), Tapada de Mafra (www.tapadademafra.pt), Grutas de Mira d'Aire (www.grutasmiradaire.com)

Have a nice trip
