We have been to Madeira many times but never in Oct.We were fortunate enough to have very good weather. The Melia Mare hotel gets better every time we stay. They managment have their finger on the pulse concerning what the modern holiday maker require out of a hotel.
We went out for 7 nights & tried to cram as much as possible in such a short time.We walked the Riberio Frio to Portella levada walk again, this time we managed to keep dry.Walked down the path from the Eira dos Serrado down to the Nuns Valley. What scenery.Going to stop at the hotel on the top for a night next time we go out.Went up to Monte, walked the Tornos levada then walked back into town.
Ate at Casa Italia on the top road a few nights,X-Tonel (facing Reids,La Pasta just across road from the market. Also a place in the old town, name escapes me but he spoiled it all by trying to charge me for the bread what he took back to the kitchen.Told him we would have returned because the food was good but he had shot himself in the foot.
Highlight of the holiday.... going out with my good Madeiran friend Chavesdouro.Had cake & wine delivered to the hotel by him when we arrived. My wife & i were picked up at the hotel on Friday lunchtime & taken to places down on the south coast. We had lunch in the lovely resort of Jardim da Mar.The restaurant was called Tarmar. What a lovely setting.Went to many more places which the trips do not take you to.
I would like to say from my wife & i thank you very much Chavesdouro for taking so much time to show us your beautiful island & to treating us to a lovely lunch. It will stay in our memories for ever.
Cant get enough of Madeira & hopefully in the future we intend to rent & stay long term.
