Best way to get to coastal sites

Hi guys! Leaving in less than 4 weeks!! We are looking forward to relaxing in the sun and sea (hopefully the weather will be better by the end of the month).

We want to go to the sea pools at Porto Munez, and I think there is a sea pool at Porto da cruz? We absolutely hate sitting in tour buses while on vacation, so we have ruled out happytours and madeira seekers. We were going to take the local buses, but also thought about personal taxi options (danielmadeira, taximadeira) as another option. Again, we'd rather spend more time at one or two sites, rather than just driving around looking at things and moving on. Anyone/experts have any thoughts? Thanks!

The sea pools at Port Moniz are fantastic .If you do not wish to do the North West Tour which allows you 2 hours there then I would suggest you negotiate a deal with a local taxi company .Enjoy .

You don't say where you are staying. The sea pools at Doca do Cavacas are easily reached from the Pestana Grand or by walking along the Promenade and down the steps. A few hotels have direct sea access such as Cliff Bay, Carlton, Palms etc.. Beaches are not really a feature of Madeira but there is a black volcanic sand one between Praia Formosa and Camara Do Lobos.

Zurich72 - there are indeed sea pools at Porto da Cruz, and you can get there easily by public bus from Funchal. It's a delightful journey across the island, via Machico, where you could stop off for a look on your return. Porto da Cruz is a nice little place with some lovely walks nearby and beautiful scenery.

The pools at Porto da Cruz are just like swimming pools. Not really comparable to Porto Moniz.

True, the sea pools at Porto da Cruz are not like those at Porto Moniz, but are nevertheless great for swimming, and there's a little beach, too. Definitely worth a visit.

The black sand beach at Canical is also lovely and has a lovely little bar for snacks and drinks. Definately worth a visit.

Thanks guys! Staying at the hotel galomar for 4 nights, then the cliff bay for 4 nights -- both of which have amazing sea access. We do though want to see some other parts of madeira this time, so thanks for the advice!

We did a tour with DanielMadeira and were really pleased. It was a tour to the east side of the island. If I were to go to Madeira again, I would do as you are planning to spend more time in just a few places. We wasted a day going to Porto Santo and I really was not impressed. Porto Munez was nice as well as is Funchal itself. I hope you have a great time and good weather. Make sure that you try all the amazing tropical fruits. The variety of maracuja is incredible.
