circular walks around the island

Still looking for inspiration for circular walks on the island. We have a rental car and want to explore on our own. We usually walk about 10 to 12 km a day. I have read warnings about going out alone, but we are NOT interested in doing guided hikes.

Thanks

Circular walks are always a challenge, even near home we find it better to retrace our steps.

We normally use a map to select interesting spots, drive there and hope to find suitable parking places.

Then just follow whatever looks a good idea.

We haven't encountered any dangers walking in Madeira. Naturally be aware of the risk of cold while in the mountains, also the risk of vertigo esp on levada walks.

Try the sunflower revised 11th edition book. Most walkers,no matter what nationality use this book.

Available to download on tablet form also.

Maybe dutchguy can help you if you send him p/m.

Thank you for the replies.

I have read a lot about the sunflowerbook on the forum. Will check it out.

I usually look on wikiloc for hikes. It worked well for us in the Alpujarras and on Tenerife. For Madeira it seems really hard to find circular walks. Maybe there are other sites like wikiloc. All ideas are welcome!

The walks in Madeira are totally different to Tenerife walks(done some ourselves)

The leveda paths were constructed 100,s of years ago to help the farmers & Madeirans to get from A to B

The canary walks may be more circular but don't serve a purpose.
