Sunday in Funchal

Mass in the little hideout Penha da besides being spiritual, is quite an interesting morning out. there is a great violinist, hymn singing,a wonderfully

interesting priest and a social gathering for tea and coffee afterwards. Anyone find anything similar? Then off we went to Casa dItalia near the Lido for a great pizza and salad. (the little church is located near the Royal Savoy).

Oh and a stroll to Rua Samta Maria in the old town is another suggestion.

sunday is the best day for strolling around town. quiet and you can see the madeirans taking an afternoon walk with their families on the promenade

u can explore streets which are crowded and noisy wth traffic the other days

the only sad thng about it is Londres is closed and their calamari is[are]the best

attended that church on our last visit.

The priest is quite a character ! Very interesting speaker and an extremely friendly guy.

Didn't have time to go for a brew afterwards but it is a very welcoming little church. Even if you're not Catholic or not even religious you'll be made extremely welcome if you're looking for something a little bit different to do on a Sunday morning.

Santa Maria..the most beautiful little church and although not church goers , we were very moved by it and sat there between masses, drinking in all the loveliness.

Found Funchal bizarrely quiet on Sunday evening. Walked from Cafe do Teatro to Riso via the bar next door to Banana's between about 1830-2015, and certainly the first 'leg' of the journey through the shoppy parts felt deserted!
