Renting bikes, mopeds or quads

How easy is it to rent them and what is the cost if you want to keep them for several days?

I'm not a good walker and considers this as a way of getting around to see a bit more.

It is possibke to hire quads and cycles also motor bikes. Try Point in the Edem Mar shopping centre, or many of the car hire places around the Lido area for quads. There is a small office outside Oliympia shopping centre which has cycles and motorbikes, near to the Casino Hotel.

Both actually, but I was thinking of Porto Santo here. In Madeira I'm pretty sure we will rent a car. But at Port Santo it looks like a bike or a quad might be all we need.

In Porto Santo you can rent bikes at te Colombo bike shop which in the town, near the turn to the torre pria hotel. I think the rate is about EUR10 a day. Bicycles are fine for cycling along the beach road but it gets too steep if you want to go inland. You can rent cars at the airport or Moinho rent-a -car have a kiosk in the town beside the taxi rank. I think a car is around 50 EUR a day.

Thank you again,

the bike was to get along the coast. We were thinking of the possibility to get into the town with the bikes if our hotel was not the one in the center.

Good idea. You can also use the bicycles to go to either end of the island (calheta and the port). In terms of distance from the town, the order is (closest first) Torre Pria hotel, Hotel Porto Santo, Pestana Hotel , Luamar Apartments, Hotel Vilabaleira. The latter would be an hours walk.

Thank you as well. We would not go to far from town, since even by bike my range is limited, but it would help me not being stuck in one place. I should have another talk with my husband about this possibility. We were right outside Funchal last August and loved that. but we do want to see a bit more this time.

Well, if your brief is a hotel close to the town and beach, then the Torre Pria would be the obvious choice. The next one, Hotel Porto Santo is about 15 mins further away. There are two other places to stay in the town, the hotel Pria dourada and the Residential. The pria dourada is a 3*, small rooms, no balconies and is right in the centre and not really aimed at international tourists. I don't know a lot about the Residential but its looks ok from the outside, small place , probably 3*, with balconies. The major disadvantage, for somebody with limited mobility is that its situated on a hill with a very steep climb to get there (but nice view).

I rather do something without a steep hill to walk every day, so the Torre Pria is more my speed. I saw that I could get a package with the ferry and the hotel that seemed like a good deal. Do you know if the hotel picks up at the ferry or what the cab drive would cost?
