Is it possible to go to Santiago de Compostela in Spain for a day trip from Porto?

Probably only if you drive - the distance is about 115 miles. The earliest train arrival from Porto is 1325; I am not sure about buses but don't recall any direct services.

You can check the Portuguese rail schedule at www.cp.pt You will find that there is twice daily rail service from Porto to Vigo, and easy train connections from there to Santiago.

Alternatively you can take the Alsa bus (a Spanish company) direct to Santiago from Porto

The bus from Santiago goes straight to Oporto and airport, twice a day, for 22 euros. On to Fatima, Lisboa

Bus: www.alsa.es Takes 2.45hrs 4 per day costs 22 euro one way

www.cp.pt for the Portuguese train timetables.

http://www.renfe.es/ for the Spanish train timetables.

http://www.alsa.es for the bus timetables.

If you are in Vigo then there is a direct bus service to Oporto airport and city.

AUTNA for the bus service schedule click on servicios

Other things to note are;

Sunday and Public holiday services are usually reduced compared with the rest of the week.

There is an hours’ difference between the two countries.
