Trip planning help!

We are 2 couples in our 40s planning our 1st trip to Portgual this June. We enjoy wine tasting, beautiful scenery, fine dining, cultural activities. We only have 1 week to spend in Portgual, and don't want to go to the Algarve, so we were thinking of Porto and some stops in the Duoro Valley, maybe Coimbra, Evora, Sintras---and we'll end up in Lisbon. Any recommendations would be appreciate!

Evora is well worth a visit but it is over 200 miles from Porto. Ditto Sintra, which is also the the best part of 200 miles. Long trips for a day out!

Take a look at the cities of Braga and Guimaraes. They are both within an hour or Porto by train or car and both have a great deal of interest.

I have just returned from two weeks in and around the Rio Lima valley area from Viano do Castelo on the coast up to the historic village of Soajo up near the Spanish border in the Penedes Geres National Park plus as many mountains and walks as I could fit in and thought the area was just lovely.

Very few tourists, nice people, interesting small towns and even more interesting mountain vilages. Good area for a DIY holiday. Much vinhos verde was taken!

We holidayed in Northern Portugal this summer and found that Ofir, near Fao on the A28 has a very nice beach, then Esposende travelling towards Vianna de Castello is worth seeing. Braga is also a town that you would want to spend time in, so is Pont de Lima, all quite accessible in a day. It is quick on the A11 tollroad, but the smaller roads are more interesting. I would give Apulia a miss though!

Thank you all for your advise---are we missing out by just concentrating in the north? (we are going to the beach in France afterwards, so we don't need the beach!)

We spent 11 days in Portugal last year. Flew into Lisbon but stayed in Sintra (4 nights) which was fabulous -very easy to get in and out of Lisbon by train. We took a bus from Lisbon to Obidos where we stayed for one night. Train to Coimbra for 3 nights and then finally a train to Porto (3 nights). We loved every bit of it and I think it would be easily do-able in a week if you cut down the time in each of the places.
