New elephant / forest conservation attraction in Sen Monorom

Although not listed yet on Tripadvisor, we can thoroughly recommend the above new NGO project / attraction for fellow travellers / tourists. It strikes a really good balance between an elephant / native forest experience and value for money, without riding on an elephant (which is not supposed to be good for them). We had a full day in the forest with an English speaking local guide, an elephant and her Bunong carer. Cost at time of writing: $40 each for the two of us. The day (8ish to 5ish) included lunch, a bit of forest trekking (not difficult or long) with the elephant observing natural behaviour, followed in the afternoon by a swim in a beautiful river with the elephant - an absolute joy ! Lee (project leader) can be contacted through this website: http://www.mondulkiriproject.org. Highlight of SE Asia for us.

I also spent a day with Mr Tree, the coordinator of the Mondulkiri Project, on December 22, it was an excellent experience. The project just got underway in October, he said I was his second visitor!

Ire123, you will have to get to Sen Monorom, so probably go back to Phnom Penh and from there it is a little over 5 hours by mini-van to Sen Monorom (take the Kim Seng Express, $10). Mr Tree can take you jungle trekking (no trail, real bushwhacking!) or on a trail if you're not all that fit.
