Accommodation in Athens and Greek Islands

I am in the beginning stages of planning a month/6 week trip around Southern Europe at the end of August/September. If anyone has positive and personal experiences of very reasonable B&Bs, pensions, small hotels and good hostels (with private rooms and facilities) in Athens and the Greek islands (don't mind which islands but wouldn't mind spending a few days each on about 3/4 islands, so reasonably near to each other preferable), (southern France, north-west coast of Italy, Florence, Milan, Venice, Croatian coast as well) I would greatly appreciate it.

Any other travelling tips greatly appreciated as well, as not done anything like this before (2 x 34 year-old professional males, used to creature comforts!).

Thanks all in advance.

Hello!

Start from the following:

Art Gallery Hotel (http://www.artgalleryhotel.gr/)

www.hostels.com/Dioskouros

HostelBookers.com/Athens

www.hostelworld.com/Athens

http://www.backpackers.gr/bweb/

An island hoping will be easy if you choose ferries on the same ferry route. For example:

Syros, Tinos, Mykonos

Paros, Antiparos, Naxos,

Santorini, Ios, Folegandros

Sifnos, Milos, Kimolos

Lesbos, Chios

Do a bit of womework and come back when you have a general idea of what questions to ask.

Happy planning!

I heartily recommend the Art Gallery, a small family run hotel in a convenient but non-touristy area of Athens (first on Thalia's list.)
